Asian Sports CC started about 50 years ago. We currently have 4 teams playing in the Leicestershire and Rutland Cricket league. In season 2019, the First XI played in Div 4 Central (Birstall), Second XI play in Div 5 East (Birstall), Third XI play in Div 6 East (Sroxton)
and Fourth XI play in Div 8 West (Markfield). Season 2019 was a successful season where the First and Second XI both gained promotion by becoming Champions and Runners Up respectively. We are a progressive club with 4 qualified level 2 coaches. We are developing a junior section and have run All Starts Cricket and Women’s Softball Cricket for which we won an award from the ECB. We will also run Dynamo Cricket from 2021.
As an inner city club we are trying to maximise our growth and potential with the limited resources and facilities we have. A strong and hardworking committee has enabled us to develop and move forward.

Due to lack of no Muslim cricket teams in Leicester Young Muslim Association (YMA) was formed on 1 st of March 1975. The cricket team started in the Leicester mutual league winning many honours.

Over the years young muslim association grew into very successful organisation that catered for the deprived area of Highfield community in many ways by providing social, cultural and sporting activities through grants secured from Leicester city council. These activities catered for ages of all groups, gender and race.

To reflect the changing nature of Leicester’s ethnic mix Young Muslim association cricket and football teams opened up to cater people from all religions and race and was known as YMA.

In the mid 80’s YMA was the first organisation in the country to organise a 10/10 Floodlit cricket tournament at Saffron Lane stadium. This proved to be very popular tournament for 20 years attracting crowds of over 2,000 and players from all over the country. The first year of the tournament, the trophies were presented by Keith VAZ the then Prospective Labour candidate for Leicester East. As the tournament popularity increased it attracted interest from national and international players.

By 1980 YMA had 3 cricket teams operating in the league.

In 1985 the first team decided that the team needed to play at higher level and entered the South Leicestershire cricket league. In the first three years the team won the cup competition and gained promotion to the premier league.

The cricket teams went strength to strength and the teams are now competing in the combined Leicestershire league and looking to improve the facilities and providing sporting facilities for youngsters and females.

The first team were playing in the 4 th division and finished second in the table and will be promoted to division 3 next season.

The second team were playing in the 8 th division and finished in second in the table and will be promoted to division 7.

Both teams had a successful season. YMA also won the T20 Bowl final on the 28 th August 2019 after beating extremely good teams along the way.
